Positions that generate much discussion among practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are the berimbolo, 50-50 and the double guard pull, now and then, subject to criticism. After Romulo Barral giving his opinion on the positions mentioned , it was the turn of 5x World Jiu-Jitsu champion Xande Ribeiro to give his opinion. In an interview with tatame, the two-time ADCC champion was tolerant of the berimbolo, but criticized the double guard pull and excess time spent in 50-50.

Berimbolo :

“I have no problem with berimbolo. This position has always been in Jiu-Jitsu and is fully valid. It is the evolution of De La Riva and Helicopter sweep. When your opponent puts his butt on the ground is berimbolo, it is not the De La Riva or helicopter. It’s a natural evolution of the sport. If you do not defend it you’ve got a problem. You see Buchecha and Rodolfo using it. No problem “

Double guard pull :

“What I am against is more double guard pull. If the guy accepts this little game on his ass and does not struggle to pass the guard, then he is not a fighter. Stay home and don’t fight, please. We should give a time limit. We shouldn’t have to adapt to it “

50-50 :

“You take what you want of Jiu-Jitsu. Some people tie the entire fight and only rise at the end to get points and to win. The Federation is very reluctant to punish athletes who exaggerate in the 50-50 and the double pull. You have to reward a sweep, a pass, something that I built and honed by the sweat of my workout. The problem is the 50-50. It looks like two idiots on a seesaw. The Paulo Miyao and Keenan Cornelius, are two exceptional athletes who are, were, in a match, more than seven minutes on 50/50 and in the end went up to try to make points. I think that’s devaluing our sport “
