Rodolfo Vieira On MMA: ‘I’m 24, It May Be The Right Time For A Career Change’

The current world super heavy champion, Rodolfo Vieira has recovered from his recent injury that he sustained during his European seminar tour. Although recovered, Rodolfo will not be competing until the end of the year.

He told Tatame about his recovery and about his future plans for 2015:

“I’m returning slowly, without forcing nothing until now because I will not compete anymore this year. My priority at the moment are my seminars. I start now and go to Florianópolis in December, then it gets tricky to devote myself 100% to training, which is what I need to do when I want to compete at a high level.

“Probably, I will return to fight in Abu Dhabi, but I will only know at the very beginning of next year. In my case, the World of California and Abu Dhabi require much training. Preparation begins months before. ”

Rodolfo also has plans to go to MMA and it’s just a question of time before he does it:

“I’m thinking about it, but it’s still very early. It’s only been a month since I started training Muay Thai. I’m really enjoying it, but so far, only took beatings (laughs). Later on, when I’m confident on my feet, I’ll do this transition. Still need a little more time”

“In my mind, I need to spend a whole year to practice boxing and muay thai and only then make my debut. I think I can get along in the ring yes, but to do well only if I devote myself fully to the new mode. I want to spend all the time and energy that I spent today with the gi, in MMA training. After a year, so I think I’ll be ready to fight in the new mode, ”

“I’m 24 years old and may be the right time to try a career change. If it goes wrong and I get beaten, I think will have plenty of time to return to the Jiu-Jitsu competition scene at a high level. I’m 101kg and got to lose weight if I do MMA, but I think I can go down well. I’m talking to my coaches and some friends, as Lyoto Machida for example, and I’m considering going to train out there in California, and do this test, ”
