Leandro Lo: ‘I’m Moving Up To Medium Heavy’

Leandro Lo: ‘I’m Moving Up To Medium Heavy’

After winning the Worlds in 2011 and 2012 at lightweight, Leandro won it in 2014 at middle weight, beating Otavio Sousa in the final on points.

He equals the feat of Vitor Shaolin (former Jiu-Jitsu world champion and MMA fighter), also three-time champion with two titles in the light and one at middle.

He told Tatame about his tough final with Otavio.

“The match with Otavio was really tough. It was a war. He eventually changed his strategy compared to our past matches and surprised me. The tactic I used was to win by sweeping and passing guard.

I don’t care about breaking records. My thought is just to keep winning. I want to be also a champion in new weights. “

Lo already has plans for the future. After winning in two different categories (light and medium), Leandro wants to venture at middle heavy (88,3 kgs with the Gi).

This is probably not a bad idea as he is already tall for a middleweight and has the body frame for middle heavy:

“My plan is to go up a category. I can continue at middleweight or move to middle heavy, but not back down (to light).

“Now I am recovering from injuries. I need to do some tests on my knee but it’s nothing serious.

I’ll be ready for Rio Open and Copa Podio, “he added.
