The much expected match between Andre Galvao and Chael Sonnen is drawing mixed reactions from BJJ fans.

The match will take place at  Metamoris 4, on 9th August in California. Galvão, multiple Jiu-Jitsu world and ADCC champion, faces an MMA and with little experience in big grappling tournaments but with a heavy wrestling pedigree.

Fabiano Scherner, Chael Sonnen’s current grappling coach said that in this interview, that his student has no intention to run away from the fight like Brandon Schaub did vs Cyborg:
“I don’t believe the fight will go that way because Chael refuses to do an ugly fight, “He will go straight forward against Galvao. He’s training for a 20-minute fight, a good fight, not like what Schaub did against ‘Cyborg.’

For Ramon Lemos co-founder of the Atos Jiu-Jitsu, Galvao will attack non stop:

“I think Sonnen will do a Jiu-Jitsu ‘going backwards’. I’m sure he will retreat and Galvão will be passing his guard all the time. Sonnen will try to defend at any cost. He will get swept with a berimbolo and Galvao goes up to submit, ”

Ex-UFC fighter Chael Sonnen was fired from the organization after being caught in two surprise doping tests. The fighter, who has a wrestling base, has submitted only five opponents in MMA. One of them was Mauricio Shogun Rua.
