Their paths crossed at ADCC 2022, both competing in the under 77kg division; albeit without facing each other directly.

Since then, Torres has had limited appearances in no-gi grappling, securing a decision win over Magid Hage at WNO 17.
In contrast, Ryan has been more active – showcasing his skills with superb victories and a silver medal at the ADCC East Coast Trials.

With both athletes invited to compete in the 77kg division at ADCC 2024, their matchup at Who’s Number One 23 could serve as a precursor to future encounters between them throughout the year.

Originally supposed to challenge Mica Galvao for the WNO welterweight title, Ryan had to withdraw due to injury, paving the way for Galvao’s victory over Kenta Iwamoto.
Consequently, the match between Ryan and Torres may serve as a title-eliminator, adding an extra layer of significance to their impending bout.
