UFC’s Jailton Almeida Announces Charity MMA Fight vs. Athlete With Down Syndrome

UFC heavyweight contender Jailton Almeida is set to engage in a unique and heartwarming battle outside the UFC octagon…
Because he will – before his highly anticipated UFC 299 showdown with Curtis Blaydes – participate in a special MMA exhibition match against Alvaro Borges, an athlete with Down syndrome!

This charity event is organized by Brazilian MMA promotion “Demo Fight” and is scheduled for January 27th, at Demo Fight 18 in Salvador, Brazil.

Almeida shared that he is very enthusiastic about the upcoming match:

I’m very happy to be part of this event and help Alvaro’s dream come true of fighting MMA again.

Borges has previously competed in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments both in Brazil and internationally
He had also won a fight in a charity MMA bout, under the Demo Fight banner.

Demo Fight promoter Demistocles Brito explained to MMA Fighting why he organizes events featuring athletes with special needs:

Demo Fight’s goal is to not only reveal new talents, but also promote inclusion.
We started doing that at Demo Fight 11 with one-handed fighter Marney Maxx, and then we did a grappling match with two blind athletes.

In our last event we had Alvaro fighting MMA for the first time, and now he’s going for his second against Malhadinho.
