Jared Cannonier started his professional MMA career all the way back in 2011, when he racked up 7 wins in the first 3 years of competition.
He quickly received an opportunity to compete in the UFC’s heavyweight division. But then, after going 1-1, he made a decision to start going down in weight classes.

He competed as a light heavyweight for around 18 months, going 2-3 in that time period.
Then, he moved down to middleweight, which turned out to be the perfect weight division for him – as he racked up a 5-1 record within it and an eventual UFC 276 title shot against Israel Adesanya.

Cannonier didn’t take the win. But he did push through all five rounds with Adesanya.
And it will be interesting to watch how his career progresses now, especially with his evolving grappling skillset.
