UFC Champ Israel Adesanya Promoted to Purple Belt in BJJ: “It’s Time to Start Tapping People Out!”

UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (20-0) is currently working on his BJJ Gi & No Gi game at Atos HQ in San Diego, California.

Adesanya has been training BJJ for a few years under the guidance of Atos leader Andre Galvao and trains at an Atos Affiliate in his home of New Zealand.

He spent the last few weeks training at Atos HQ, sharpening his grappling skills.

Last night he was promoted by Galvao to purple belt:

Galvao stated:

“Congrats Izzy @stylebender on your 🟣 purple belt! We are super proud of you. Well deserve!

Awesome to have you with us champ. You’re a real champ! #Mana ✊🏽.

Level up! Haha!”

Adesanya added:

“I smoked with Snoop Dogg 💨
I surfed worth Kelly Slater 🏄🏾‍♂️
I rolled with Andre Galvao 🥋
This has been the highlight of my trip so far, being surprised with a purple belt by @galvaobjj .
Although initially I didn’t feel like I deserve this. I trust his judgement and feel I have earned this. In my short time here I’ve felt my jiu jitsu level up. I love knocking people out, but it’s time to start tapping them out!”
