It’s not every day that you encounter a story that, once you read it, stays with you for days to come.
And, well, this story of a police officer, a kid, and Jiu-Jitsu… Is one of them.
Tom DeBlass shared it via social media:
Earlier this month, Officer Hawkins, along with several other officers, were dispatched to a call where the son was upset and locked himself in the bathroom.
After talking to the mom, Patsy, officers determined that Kaden was heartbroken that he couldn’t participate in karate anymore due to his family’s other responsibilities.
Kaden also knew that when he did karate, it taught him discipline, structure, and assisted him to remain calm in certain situations.
So, police officer Hawkins – who is a BJJ blue belt – knew what needs to be done right away:
Officer Hawkins has been training mixed martial arts almost every day and takes his training very seriously.
He thought of a solution that would benefit Kaden. He made a deal with him that if he had a good weekend, he would try to find a local martial arts gym that would sponsor his training.
Ten days later, Stoic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was happy to sponsor Kaden’s Jiu Jitsu training along with a Gi.Kaden had his first class, and Officer Hawkins stopped by and actually trained with him!
A special bond was formed:
Officer Hawkins tries to visit Kaden at his house from time to time.
He is looking forward to training again with him next week at Stoic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
