Marcelo Garcia, an IBJJF and ADCC Hall Of Fame – and one of the best-liked people in the BJJ community – has been diagnosed with stomach cancer in January this year.
Garcia pushed through a number of chemotherapy sessions, as well as a surgery. And now, his health is much better than it used to be.
As a matter of fact, he recently shared the news that he’s got one chemotherapy session left…
And then he’ll be back on the mats!
Marcelo also had another surgical procedure concerning his esophagus, because he had a difficult time swallowing food:
I came to New York City, a little bit in a hurry, (because) I was having a hard time eating.
And then they decided to do a (medical procedure)… Now I can eat way better.Feels good to be on the mat, but I still have one more chemo. And after this chemo, I’ll probably be able to take this port out (from the chest) where I take my chemo.
So, as soon as I take this off I should be back on the mat. I just can’t wait.
September 7th is my last chemo and once this is done, I feel like I’m ready to go back on the mat.
