Luke Rockhold Wants Jon Jones in Grappling Match

The second edition of the Chael Sonnen’s submission only tournament has just concluded. Plenty of fighters fought in the octagon but majority of the attention was captivated by the 3 main fights.

Jon Jones vs Dan Henderson.

Miesha Tate vs Jessica Eye.

and

Jeff Monson vs Warren Brooks.

Main event of the evening saw Jon Jones tapping out the recently retired UFC fighter Dan Henderson. Jones won via arm triangle choke from the mount after close to 7 minutes.

Of course the event followed Eddie Bravo Invitational rules so if a submission had not been in place the fight would’ve went into overtime.

When the main fight was concluded Jones announced he sees himself facing Chael Sonnen next to which Sonnen replied he will see him January 29th (for the 3rd edition of the event).

Jones called out Chael Sonnen following last night’s win, to which Sonnen accepted.

“I’m thinking me and you, Chael, should do a little something something,” Jones said. He defeated Sonnen via first-round TKO back at UFC 159.

Sonnen, being one to never duck a challenge, graciously accepted the invitation.

“In that case, I will see you Jan. 29,” Sonnen said, referring to Submission Underground’s next event.

“I’m thinking about getting into the Octagon every day,” he said afterward. “I’m totally living a healthy lifestyle. Obviously with sobriety, and just eating clean… I’m working really hard.”

Jones isn’t fighting in the UFC as he is still suspended until July 2017 so he plans on competing in Grappling matches until then.

Jones was in turn called out by Luke Rockhold to a grapling match. UFC fighter and former UFC and Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has a rich Jiu-Jitsu competition history. He won the 2007 IBJJF worlds at blue belt and at purple belt adult the following year. He was awarded his black belt through Leandro Vieira from Checkmat.

4x world absolute Jiu-Jitsu champion, Marcus Buchecha had the opportunity to train several times with Luke Rockhold – challenger to middleweight belt in the UFC – at AKA.

In an interview with Combate, Buchecha explains that the first time he trained with Rokchold was in 2013 and admits that he has already been submitted by the middleweight in the gym.

Luke is a very good black belt. He’s legit. He’s the guy I roll with when I go train at AKA. He loves to train without the Gi, and he is against whom I have the hardest time rolling in AKA. He has a different game, dangerous, with footlocks and inverted triangles. When I go training with him I am always aware, because if I lose focus he submits me. In my opinion, he has the best ground game in MMA, out of the athletes I’ve trained with.
