Garry Tonon: “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Saved My Life A Million Times”

Garry Tonon emerged victorious in the first round against Martin Nguyen, in their ONE 165 match – winning via Rear Naked Choke.
And, well, he’s crediting his success in the octagon to the lessons that Jiu-Jitsu had taught him.

As he emphasized during the post-fight interview, Tonon understood that going into the fight will be no easy matter:

I was expecting a different fight.

I was expecting, you know, how I was talking to myself the entire time leading up to the fight, talking to myself about how I was gonna probably have to take damage.
“This is gonna be really tough fight, and I’m probably gonna have to come back from adversity and all of these things…”

And I got it got went out there, took his back and and strangled fairly quickly, you know, by the end of the round.

Tonon credits Jiu-Jitsu for his ability to avoid significant strikes and damage…
For which he is grateful in more than one way:

I am so thankful that I the first martial art that I got into was Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and it saved my life a million times.
And it and it seems that it’s it’s still saving me to this day.
