Fabricio Werdum Talks Pena’s Performance Against Meregali: “He Has To Wake Up”

In a recent episode of the “Nem vi me” podcast, hosted by the renowned Fabricio Werdum, the UFC fighter and Jiu-Jitsu black belt Jailton Malhadinho shared their insights on the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 match between Felipe Pena and Nicholas Meregali.

Meregali won via Rear Naked Choke (Pena tapped before it was locked all the way up), and Malhadinho observed a noticeable disparity in the performance levels of the two fighters:

I think it’s already a given for Preguiça. To compete at a high level, I don’t think it’s possible anymore.
It seemed like he was just there to make his money.

Meregali is at a level above.

Werdum, a Jiu-Jitsu black belt himself, acknowledged Nicholas Meregali’s impressive performance while noting a certain lack of focus from Felipe Pena:

Meregali is doing very well, I don’t like his speaking style, but at the same time it’s working.
It’s not something I would do, but he’s making it happen.

Preguiça is a little careless. He has to wake up a little more for the fight.
He has to be more active, alert.
