UFC’s Khamzat Chimaev has recently made a significant shift in his life and career – as he has chosen to move to and represent the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The 29-year-old is originally from Chechnya, Russia, but has moved to Sweden back in 2013.
He has been representing the country since his 2018 professional mixed martial arts (MMA) debut. But things have changed now.
One of the main reasons why Chimaev moved to UAE has been, as reported by CalfKicker, related to Sweden’s laws and high taxation.
He also received the UAE citizenship.
Here’s what he had to say about the shift (as reported by CalfKicker):
Everyone who says I’ve left the country, that I’ve left Sweden and everything I have is just moving to Dubai.
Everyone has done the fastest political thing. It has been better for my career. Better training.
Always sunny. You don’t freeze.
Chimaev remains grateful to his Sweden fans:
I will always respect my city Stockholm HOME. Love it. And will always come back there.
I do things for my career, for my family.
That is more important to me than anything else in the world.Everyone who cheers for me from Sweden: I respect you.
I represent you, too.
