After his knockout win over former Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) world champion Vinny Magalhaes (10-7-1) last weekend, 40 year old BJJ black belt Anthony Perosh (14-7) has revealed that he is only getting better with age. Speaking exclusively to MMA Kanvas, the Aussie martial arts veteran confirmed:

“I can honestly say (that) I’m getting better. I feel it too, skill wise I’m a true competitor. As soon as I finish a fight I have a couple of weeks off and then it’s back to basics. I’m constantly learning and I can’t wait to get back and start learning again. I was the complete underdog and Vinny (Magalhaes) fought Phil Davis before me and he was expected to win and he was ranked higher than me.

About his striking training for the fight:

“All my boxing coaches drilled in my head was that as soon as the match starts, I have to start aggressive. In the past, I’ve started too slow but this time, I had to make sure to keep my hands up, keep my distance and then get off first – and that’s what I did. I got out, circled right, circled left, threw the jab out a few times and as soon as I hit the right, I felt him fall down. As he was falling I stuck with him, but I felt him go limp when I hit him – so I knew that I just had to stay on top of him and keep the pressure on and the match would be over.

About the Brazilian crowd’s silence as Perosh celebrated his 14 second KO victory:

“It was dead quiet, as soon as the referee pulled me off him, I started running around and then I quickly slowed down to a brisk walk, it was dead quiet – like nothing, literally nothing (laughs). The arena was just in shock, I didn’t get a clap – which was fine, I expect that but it was pretty funny actually,” Perosh said.

Perosh turns 41 in October.
