Wrestling Match Between Russia And Georgia Turns Into A Mass Brawl

 

 

In Russia the passions always run hot. A wrestling match between Russia and Georgia just turned into a mass fight – it involved wrestlers, coaches and even fans.

The incident took place at the European Cup of Nations in Bucharest Romania and it escalated following conflict between Russia’s Imil Sharafetdinov and Zurab Datunashvili.

The fight was ended by the referee after the Georgian Zurab Datunashvili lashed out and hit the opponent in the face. This contravention of the rules of Graeco-Roman wrestling sparked a brawl causing coaches from both sides to rush onto the mat.

Gogi Koguashvilli, the head coach of the Russian team told the TASS news agency: “The guys just failed to cope with their emotions, but they swiftly calmed themselves down and were shaking hands several minutes afterwards.”

Both competitors were disqualified from further competition.
