UFC Contender Bobby Green: “Grapplers are Watering Down the UFC Brand”

UFC lightweight contender Bobby Green recently expressed criticism of the grappling-focused style some fighters employ in mixed martial arts. In an interview, Green stated he feels the prevalence of wrestling and jiu-jitsu is making the sport less exciting for fans.

Green prefers the striking approach of fighters like Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal compared to grappling-centric athletes like Khamzat Chimaev and Islam Makhachev. He believes such wrestling-based styles are “watering down the brand.”

The 36-year-old Green favors the striking aspect of MMA. He contends grappling-focused fighters make the fights less entertaining for viewers.

Green is scheduled to face veteran Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night on April 16th. He will look to rebound from a submission loss to Rafael Fiziev in his last bout.

Veteran fighters Jim Miller (37-17 MMA, 26-16 UFC) and Bobby Green (31-15-1 MMA, 12-10-1 UFC) are slated to compete at the UFC 300 event on April 13. Miller, aged 40, has won five of his last six bouts. Green, aged 37, has previously been scheduled to face Miller three times, though all bouts were canceled due to Green’s withdrawals.

Pending any changes, Miller will become the only fighter in UFC history to compete at UFC 100, UFC 200, and UFC 300, exemplifying his longevity in the sport since joining the UFC roster in 2008. The UFC 300 lineup also includes notable matchups such as Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway for the lightweight BMF title, Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan for the strawweight title, and Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan. Despite being scheduled to fight each other three times previously, Miller and Green have yet to meet inside the octagon, adding anticipation to their upcoming bout.
