The “Mohamed Choke” From the Mount is So Effective

The mount position is one of the most dominant controlling positions in BJJ. It is one of the fundamental positions in Jiu-Jitsu and is arguably one of the most valuable lessons a student will learn that can be applied in a self-defense situation. Landing in the mount is a common position to be in a fight, so learning how to utilize it for offense and learning how to escape it can really be helpful.

Can you imagine tapping someone again and again with the same choke? That’s what happened by BJJEE.com’s founder Gile Huni. Back when he was a blue belt (22 years ago!) he would get submitted by this choke every night at training by his teammate, Mohamed.

He eventually renamed the choke the ‘Mohamed choke’ in honor of his teammate. He learned it and used it and even tweaked it and found new details and set ups.

Gile Huni is now a 3rd degree BJJ black belt and head instructor at Kimura BJJ Serbia , in Belgrade Serbia.

He tells the back story:

“Mohamed choke”: When I was a blue belt, back in France, I used to get submitted every single night by my teammate called Mohamed. This MF’er would traumatize me with this 😂 He used this really simple type of reverse Ezekiel choke from mount. The beautiful thing about Jiu-Jitsu is that once you caught by move, you can ask them to teach you how they did that. You lean it and then, now that move is yours forever. It’s part of your arsenal and 22 years later, you are teaching it to your students 😂 Man, I love this sport. It never ends, there is always a new detail, move or concept to learn. It’s so cerebral 💙

It’s a type of reverse Ezekiel choke from the mount and it’s very effective:

Master the mount position and finish fights with total control using Roger Gracie’s master class series!

  • Secure devastating submissions that work for grapplers of all levels, including cross chokes, ezekiel chokes, arm locks, and more.
  • Roger Gracie is one of the most dominant grapplers in history, with 10 Black Belt World Championships and 2-Time ADCC Champion – and he did it with old school Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
