During an interview at the Ivan Yarygin Cup 2024, wrestling icon Aleksandr Karelin revealed a lack of knowledge when asked about UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Despite Makhachev’s global recognition, Karelin admitted having no information about the fighter or the MMA organization where he competes.
When questioned about Makhachev, Karelin responded with curiosity, asking, “What sport is he from?” The interviewer proceeded to enlighten Karelin about Makhachev’s achievements and his notable victory over Charles Oliveira.
Renowned for his unparalleled success in Greco-Roman wrestling, Aleksandr Karelin achieved immense recognition in the field. He maintained an undefeated record spanning over 13 years in the heavyweight division. Karelin’s iconic maneuvers and intimidating demeanor earned him legendary status.
