Rousimar Palhares Announces Return to MMA at Age 41

Back in the competitive scene, Rousimar ‘Toquinho’ Palhares participated in the BJJBET No-Gi Under-88kg GP, held on August 1st, when he faced the American grappler William Tackett, but was defeated on points in the first round. Now, the Brazilian’s plans are to return to MMA, where he was last in action in December 2018, when he was defeated in the Russian event RCC 5.

In an interview with TATAME, Toquinho, currently 41 years old, spoke about his plans and motivations to keep fighting.

“My goal is to fight MMA again, for sure. I want to show some things that I haven’t had the opportunity to do yet, make more interesting fights. Some businessmen are trying to fix something, and as soon as it’s concrete I’ll let you know. But something good is coming,” said the Jiu-Jitsu black belt, who continued:

“I was training to fight MMA, but nothing came up, the invitation came from BJJBET and I couldn’t deny it, I was dying to fight (laughs). I hadn’t been in action for a while (since September 2019, grappling match against Gordon Ryan), so you can imagine how I was doing”, added the veteran.

With an MMA record of 19 wins and 10 losses in mixed martial arts, the Brazilian began his career as a professional in 2004. Since then, he has gone through events like UFC and WSOF, and now he wants one more chance to show his capabilities. “I love this sport so much, that’s what motivates me. Besides, I want to do some things that I haven’t done yet, show what has never been seen in the sport”, concluded Toquinho.
