Roger Gracie & Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida Set to Rematch in Rio de Janeiro

Metamoris had it’s ups and downs but one definitive upside was a really cool match they put together – the one between GOAT Roger Gracie and a fierce modern age king of absolute Buchecha.

The two will face off again at Gracie Pro 2017 on July 23 at Carioca Arena 1. It was one of the venues built for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

“I’m excited to fight in my hometown after such a long time,” Roger Gracie told MMA Fighting.

Kyra Gracie, the head of Gracie Pro, confirmed the news to MMA Fighting.

“The Brazilian audience doesn’t have this contact with the great idols of the sport anymore,” Kyra Gracie told MMA Fighting. “We don’t have these big fights in Brazil anymore, so my idea was to bring Roger, who is considered the greatest of all time, and ‘Buchecha’, the best in the world today, for a superfight.”

“I had this desire to promote a tournament that is also a pleasure for every athlete to be in,” she said, “because I was always bothered with the fact that athletes are not treated in a better way since we’re the stars of the event.

“I want this to be a good experience for everyone who competes… But I admit that I get a little anxious, just like I used to get when I was about to compete [laughs].”

This rematch was originally to take place over at metamoris 7 but due to Buchecha asking for payment in advance and being reluctant to sign it didn’t come together
