In a bjj community moral infractions are rare – but what is somewhat rare is their team holding them accountable which is exactly what happened to MMA veteran Marlon Sandro when Nova Uniao caught wind of rumors of his questionable behavior.
Following news of an alleged assault of his fiancee in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian MMA veteran Marlon Sandro was swiftly removed from his longtime Nova Uniao team.
Sandro, who is a Bellator veteran, is alleged to have assaulted Tayssa Madeira as they returned from a soccer game Thursday.
Madeira’s friends posted pictures of her with an immobilized arm and a black eye on instagram.
According to Combate.com, Sandro and Madeira were returning from the game when Sandro choked out Madeira unconscious. He then proceeded to beat her with punches and kicks. Nova Uniao head coach Andre Pederneiras confirmed to MMAjunkie that, while no one had been able to reach Sandro yet, he’s been removed from the team in light of the seriousness of the accusations.
Reportedly Madeira is not the one who asked for Marlon to be removed from the team – and she also won’t be pressing charges.
“I love his children, so I care greatly about them,” Madeira said.
“I died on the inside,” Madeira added. “I have nothing else to say.”
Sandro was the cornerman for a few UFC fighters, including ex-champ Jose Aldo. Sandro was in Aldo’s corner at UFC 218 in Detroit.
