You Might Want To Add The Kimura Pass from Half Guard To Your Arsenal

Guest post by David Avellan, an ADCC bronze medalist. Avellan has defeated many of the world’s best grapplers, such as BJJ Black Belt World Champions Rafael Lovato Jr.Tarsis HumphriesAmaury BittetiAlexandre ‘Xande’ RibeiroRoberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu, and Rener Gracie.

Avellan is credited for developping The Kimura Trap System , a powerful submission system that counters half guard, turtle guard, and take down players with brutal efficiency.

The kimura trap is one of the most effective systems in BJJ. Some practitioners such as yours truly, base their whole game around them and even have a DVD series on the system.  Used as a kimura lock setup, the kimura trap can be used from almost anywhere on the mat both on the ground and standing. The trick is to know why, when and how to use it.

I am very well known for my Kimura game, so it should not surprise you that I have a Kimura Pass from half guard. 🙂

This is one of my go to passing sequences. I can setup this Kimura Pass on just about any one – especially if they are trying to be aggressive bottom player.

What I love about this pass is that:

1. It distracts your opponent
2. Pins your opponent
3. Gives you a submission option after the pass
