Daniel Cormier’s injury report has left the UFC in shambles. The promotion is struggling to put together a compelling UFC 206 card and they want another belt on the line.
The plan is to promote Holloway vs Pettis into an interim featherweight title fight according to esteemed MMA journalist Ariel Helwani:
As of now, plan is Anthony Pettis vs. Max Holloway for the interim 145 lbs. title happening 12/10 in Toronto. That’s what the UFC wants.

That’s per multiple sources. Should they finalize it, & it’s close, Jose Aldo would become the new 145 lbs champ. McGregor? That’s, well…

UFC has been pushing to strip McGregor of the 145 title for some time. Legally, they can. Would be interesting to see how he responds.

McGregor has been radiosilent for now but it’s hard to imagine if that will remain to be the case given how outspoken he usually is.
Initial plan was to have Gegard Mousasi to step in but he wasn’t interested and insists on waiting for Cormier.
Looks like Aldo might be getting his belt back much sooner than even he anticipated!
