Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Set for ONE Championship Debut Against Giant Undefeated Heavyweight in September

The much awaited MMA debut of Marcus `Buchecha` Almeida is confirmed under the banner of ONE championship.
Guilherme Cruz and Damon Martin of MMA Fighting reported that Almeida is expected to face undefeated heavyweight Thomas Narmo at ONE Championship: The Revolution which is scheduled to take place in Singapore in September. So far, the battle between Almeida and Narmo is the only event that is announced as an upcoming event.

Almeida is known for his BJJ success, winning the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world championships 13 times in his legendary career. There were discussions about the transition to mixed martial arts, but it was not officially announced until last year when “Buchecha” revealed that he had signed a multi-year contract to participate in the ONE Championship heavyweight competition. It is said that Almeida will train with Evolve MMA in Singapore, but has since been working with American top team in South Florida.

According to reports, Almeida was supposed to face Senegalese star Oumar Kane (better known as “Reug Reug”) in February, but was forced to withdraw from the match due to injury. Then, he was supposed to face another undefeated heavyweight fighter Ji Won Kang on ONE on TNT 2 in April. After Kang had withdrawn from the fight for unknown reasons and Almeida completely withdrew from the fight.

Almeida now meets Narmo, who made his ONE championship debut in a fight against Alain Ngalani that was recently broadcast on Friday: Battleground II. After Nalmo was accidentally hit in the groin by Ngalani and was unable to continue, this resulted in a no contest. Before that unfortunate ending, “The Last Viking” was on a four-game winning streak, all of which came with a stoppage.

ONE Championship: The Revolution will take place on Friday, September 24 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.
