Exciting news coming from Chekmat HQ. Leo Vieira has decided to accept the ADCC superfight offer. Just a month after return to competition at Berkut Grand Prix 6, Vieira decided to step in as a late day replacement for Frank Mir.
Leo is the eldest of the Vieira brothers (Ricardo and Leandro), who lead and fight for Checkmat.
Instead of Mir, Vieira will be duelling Chael Sonnen come September.
Vieira is much smaller than Sonnen so it will be a trully interesting fight. This isn’t the first time Vieira duels someone much bigger. Back in 2000 he grappled Mark Kerr at ADCC.
Leo Vieira has 2 ADCC golds and 2 silver medals from 2003,2005,2007 and 2011. He is also a 1999 IBJJF world champion.
This will be the first superfight for Leo Vieira in quite a while.
In the mean time Sonnen has been rubbing elbows with Paige Van Zant:
