5x ADCC champion Andre Galvao faced One FC two-division world champion Reinier de Ridder in a submission grappling match at the ONE: X event.

De Ridder is a ONE Championship light heavyweight and middleweight champion, who holds an undefeated MMA record of 15-0… With 10 out of those 15 wins being earned via submission!
The announcement of the match came just over a week after De Ridder submitted Kiamrian Abbasov with a Head And Arm Choke to retain his middleweight title. After the fight, he took the microphone and called out Galvao:

“Andre Galvao, let’s find out who the best grappler is around these parts. Let’s go man, I’ll choke you out!”

Galvao struggled to take down RDR and pulled guard repeatedly. On the ground although Galvao dominated the action, he struggled to control RDR. AT the end, the match ended as a draw.

Galvao will need to step it up for his upcoming ADCC superfight with Gordon Ryan.

Gordon Ryan was watching and was deeply unimpressed by Galvao’s performance:

“Ok, let have a serious talk for a minute here.. this, this is your guys best shot ? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. OH MY F***ING GOD. I’m so glad we got this gem of a match at @onechampionship. Its not often we get to see Ole Andre on the mats anymore and boy he did not disappoint… he looked like his old decent self on the feet, minus his ability to wrestle on the fence AT ALL.

Decent timing, a few nice shots, mediocre hand fighting, it’s what I expected. But omg 😭. He is literally, and I mean literally, at BEST, a purple belt on the ground. His best move was that arm drag from half guard which was nice… then he proceeded to completely butcher any and all of the followups qthat would actually lead him to getting 2 hooks in. His bottom guard and especially attacks from bottom guard are just simply non existent.. he better hope God answers his prayers and doesn’t let me get on top of him, because he may die. His passing is so rudimentary and almost as bad as his guard play lmao. He has good quality of movement but with 0 direction. Just pommels his legs in an imprecise and spastic manner, leaving open tons of opportunities. And on top of it all, he didnt get the sub..shocker… shame, this was his time to shine and his get his 1st no gi sub in… 8 years.

Well, maybe next time they can put him against a guy whos coming in for his intro class and maybe he can sub him, but i doubt it. I could just go on and on here, I’m honestly dumbfounded. @adcc_official @mojassim80 I’m honestly gonna be very upset if you actually make me leave my house for this event.. just save everyone the time and mail the checks out.
