Female Jiu-Jitsu World Champions Open Up on How OnlyF*ns Has Affected their Lives

For those that have been living under a rock, OnlyFans is an ultra popular subscription-based website where people that create content can charge out a monthly fee for fans to access exclusive contents including adult content. These include photos, videos and music.

Onlyfans blew up in the past couple of years because adult artists started to use the platform to be able to control their content and profit directly instead of getting exploited by adult entertainment industry.

Sexualization of female Jiu-Jitsu has always been a sensitive subject:

While OnlyFans was is mostly seen as adult content, we are now seeing athletes including MMA and even BJJ athletes that have started to use and profit from the platform.

Here is a list of BJJ/Grappling practitioners that have Onlyfans accounts.

Six-time jiu-jitsu world champion Talita Alencar : ‘I pay my bills with adult content’…

“I’m already at a certain age, I want to make the most of it and I’m going to explore my beauty and my sexuality as much as possible, especially since we’re athletes and have a lot of fans following us. Prejudice happens all the time, including at the gym”, she says.

“My mother talked about the ‘photos I was posting’. I replied: ‘Mom, I’m exploring an area that you didn’t have the opportunity to do’. I don’t care about the prejudice people say. There are jokes all the time, but I don’t care because I create a series of opportunities in my life”.

Despite currently investing in the adult content platform, Talita remains focused on sport and maintains her training routine. However, the six-time jiu-jitsu world champion switched sports to compete in MMA (mixed martial arts) tournaments.

“The idea came up at the beginning of the pandemic, in May 2020, when everything was closed and I had free time. Wanted to use other skills to make extra money. It wasn’t a difficult decision, but I consulted with people I think are important in my life, like my brother, my boyfriend, my sponsor and friends. I wanted to know how it would impact different people.”

“OnlyFans came at the right time when I had to be home because of covid. I managed to occupy myself, I studied the market, I met people from a universe outside the fighting world, even if virtually, and I learned new things. The question of angles, how to be a model. Almost as a joke, I started a business that went over $100,000 in the first year.”

Despite the success these female BJJ fighters are experiencing, there are problems. Machismo, especially in the combat sports environment, is the biggest one. “I suffered and continue to suffer prejudice because of people who do not understand the purpose of my Onlyfans page. On the internet, it is easy to seek recognition with negative messages. Friends questioned me. My father, some parents of students too. When we talked, everything was fine , but, once again, it became clear that many people do not understand the purpose of the page”, says Pati Fontes.

“There is also a general prejudice against body exposure and machismo when a woman seems comfortable with her body making art however she wants. It’s normal for this to have an impact. In my case, I was idealized in a kimono. It’s almost as if I don’t had a life. As if I had to be that samurai figure at the gym, without caring much about aesthetics (laughs)”, she adds.

In less than a year, however, Pati’s new job generated another business: “I knew it would be a difficult year. So, I tried to save as much as possible. I didn’t know if the next month was going to be like the previous one, but I knew that I had to work a lot. It’s a daily effort. In the midst of all this, I opened my own jiu-jitsu academy, together with my physical trainer. I knew it would be challenging, due to the world situation and the fact that it is a contact sport while we have to keep our distance. But I also knew I wasn’t going to compete, so I decided to join. That’s when my savings helped buy mats and, finally, I was able to set up my school in OC (Orange County), California, and focus on these two new businesses that appeared in my life in 2020”.
