Felipe Pena Fails PEDs Test For Second Time & Stripped Of IBJJF 2021 World Title

BJJ world and ADCC world champion Felipe Pena has failed a PED test and as a result has been stripped of his title as 2021 IBJJF World Champion.

Pena tested positive for Clomiphene and metabolites which is a banned substance. He was tested on December 2021 at the IBJJF world championships where he would win a bronze medal in the Super-Heavyweight division and a gold in the absolute division.

Felipe Pena is now banned from IBJJF competition for a full year. Pena will still face Gordon Ryan at the ADCC World Championships as they do not test for PEDs.

This also means that the $220,000 wager between the two men is still on as Pena will also still be able to compete in the other match involved too. The second match involved in their wager is due to take place under the Who’s Number One banner, another organization that does not test for PEDs and does not need to adhere to any IBJJF sanctions. Given that Felipe Pena has been open about his intention to transition to MMA in the near-future as well, it’s unlikely that the failed PEDs test and subsequent ban is actually going to effect his career at all.

This is actually the second time, that Pena has tested positive. Back in May 2014, USADA announced that 2014 black belt IBJJF World and 2015 World Pro champion Pena had tested positive for testosterone and accepted a one-year sanction for his doping offense:

Pena claimed that Testosterone cream is the cause. After a thorough review of the case, USADA accepted Pena’s explanation that his positive test was caused by his use of a testosterone cream provided to him by a healthcare provider.
