Another European IBJJF championship is behind us. Over the past weekend athletes from all over the globe applied their jiu-jitsu to the best of their abilities in order to secure a medal on the prestigious Lisbon stage.
Growth of bjj in Europe has become undeniable with many Polish, Spanish, Italian and Scandinavian competitors showcasing their skill. Notable European competitors were: Adam Wardzinski, Jesse Urholin and Paivi Aittamaa among others.
Leandro Lo fulfilled his quest and chased down the absolute victory – he defeated Claudio Calasans in the finals 4-0. Likewise for Tayane Profirio who ended up scoring a double gold having won both the absolute and the super heavyweight division.
Male Adult Divisions:
Koji Shibamoto conquered the Rosterweight division
He won the final on advantage. Guilherme Montengro and Vincent Nguyen ended up sharing the 3rd place finish
In the Light Featherweight division Mikey Musameci won 2-0 in finals against Gabriel Moraes. Joao Miyao ended up sharing the 3rd place finish with Hiago George.
Featerweight finals saw Rubens Cobrinha Charles defeating Gianni Grippo 5×0. Marangoni and Isaque Paiva came in 3rd.

Lightweight division was closed out by Marcio Andre and teammate Luan Carvalho With Andris Brunovskis and Masahiro Iwasaki.

Middleweight finals were won by Marcos Tinoco 4×2 against Alec Bauling. There was a controversial reset in this one as can be seen attached below.
Bahiense came in 3rd having eliminated ADCC medalist Davi Ramos. He shared the 3rd spot with Jaime Canuto.
First place in the medium heavy division belongs to Rodrigo Fajardo who defeated Horlando Monteiro 2-0. Spirandeli and Vinicius Garcia came in 3rd.
Heavy division finals saw Leandro Lo scoring an impressive sub over Tanner Rice via Armbar. Notable European competitors Wardzinski and Jesse Urholin came in third.
Superheavy division saw the triumph of Mahmed Aly over Lucio Lagarto Rodrigues in the finals with Chris Bowe and Vitor Toledo coming in third.
Ultra heavy division was won by Igor Silva who closed with Ricardo Evangelista for the GF Team. Gustavo Dias and Carlos Farias shared the 3rd spot.
Leandro Lo won against Claudio Calasans 4-0 for the much coveted absolute title. All the more impressive knowing Calasans pulled out of his weight category to focus on absolute!

Mahmed Aly and Manuel Ribamar came in 3rd in Absolute.

Super Heavyweight Finals: Tayane Porfirio def Venla Luukkonen by choke from mount
As far as absolute goes:
Tayane Porfirio secured spot #1, with a single advantage point over Beatriz Mesquita. Mackenzie Dern came in 3rd.
And as far as the team results go, Gracie Barra placed first in the team category for males with Nova Uniao and Alliance following closely along.
Lucio Lagarto Rodriguez ended up retiring having taken a bow on the mat:
