EBI Is Switching To Combat Jiu-Jitsu – No More Sub Only

Eddie Bravo Invitational is the event that gave birth to the Danaher Death Squad. In spite of the founder’s desire to shine a bright spotlight on 10th Planet style, after the initial 2,3 editions the Renzo Gracie team slowly took over.

What followed were countless editions that were never dull but increasingly started to accent the overtime and gaming the system. In response to this Eddie Bravo has opted to change the system:

As Bravo says in the excerpt above – the sub only format will remain in place only for the female competitors at the event. The men will have to duke it out with slaps. While Bravo at one point wanted to include upkicks it’s unclear if they’ve already been included due to commission complications.

Now the changes CJJ has gone through have pulled in a whole new type of competitors and oustered mma vets such as Vinny Magalhaes and Vagner Rocha.

It remains unclear who exactly wants to compete in this ruleset without show money – as it’s more realistic to expect significant injuries under the versatile ruleset allowing some forms of strikes.
