Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal In Talks To Headline UFC in April

It’s looking more and more like Demian Maia might have a fight before the much anticipated attempt to win the welterweight title. The rematch between Wonderboy Thompson and Woodley has put a serious snafu on Maia’s ambitions.

And with Masvidal’s inability to find a new opponent, the UFC’s reportedly approached Maia. Globo reports that UFC is in the process of finalizing the bouth between Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal. According to their sources, if the fight agreement is finalized it will headline UFC Fight Night card set for April 22nd in Brigdgestone Arena, Nashville.

April 22nd card was struggling previously because it was previously to be headlined by Cub Swanson and UFC 22 alum and Conor McGregor sparring partner Artem Lobov.

Masvidal is on a serious winning streak having won 3 straight fights since last July. Last being that whopping victory of Donald Cowboy Cerrone. Masvidal has been quoted saying:

“If Maia’s the dude that will get me closer to the title, bring that dude on. I’ll break his s—,” Masvidal told BJPenn.com in late January. “He’s not going to take me down. People were shocked with my striking with ‘Cowboy,’ people will be shocked with my wrestling [against Maia]. He has wrestling and jiu-jitsu, but he won’t outwrestle me. So if Demian Maia wants to get that ass whooped, I’m here, man.”

He doubled down on charges that Maia is avoiding him subsequently

“Demian Maia didn’t want this. They offered him the fight, and he didn’t want it,” Masvidal told MMAJunkie Radio. “I guess he wants to sit out. So I want to fight these top-10 dudes. Give me the toughest dudes you’ve got.”

Maia, ever the class act twitted ambigiously:
