Deceive Your Opponent with a Back Step, Then Immediately Enter a Knee Slice Pass with Tom DeBlass

Do you often get stuck in your opponent’s knee shield half guard?

The knee shield is a very effective guard that keeps the bottom player relatively safe from pressure and attacks and can also give them a multitude of attacking options.

Many BJJ practitioners around the world are using their knee shield, frame and underhook game to shield off their opponent’s pressure, sweep them, reverse them and attack or even setting up a Tom DeBlass style attack from bottom half guard.

Now what should you do to pass the knee shield?

Tom DeBlass has a great way to pass the knee shield guard position by using a backstep to deceive them and come back with a knee slice to clear the shield. DeBlass then shows a second option with a ninja roll/calf slicer from the 3/4 mount:

“Deceiving your opponent with a back step, then immediately entering a knee slice.

As soon as we feel our partners knee lower behind us we step back to avoid being off balanced, then we roll through and hit a calf slicer or take the back, or we slide our free leg parallel to our opponent and sit to take the back!”

These are some great details and concepts that you ad to your game:
