CM Punk Was a No Show At Open Work Out Due To “Severe Anxiety”, And Duke Roufus Still Insists He Understands ‘the sixth sense of fighting’

CM Punk is about to make his 2nd Octagon appearance in what is likely his last shot in the octagon. To be on the main card he’s trumped Alistair Overeem – an established fighter with an impressive career. This is a decision that didn’t sit well with many fans.

“I don’t know. It just is different. I know (I was) wrestling in front of a hundred thousand people in my underwear, but it’s just different. I have anxiety. It’s a thing,” he said.

“I barely go to punk shows anymore, because being in a crowd of people, it just makes me — ehh. This is starting to freak me out, now that I’m talking about it,” Punk said about the assembled media surrounding him. “Duke (Roufus) wasn’t here too. It’s more or less, I definitely want to get (a workout) in with my team in a little bit, right at 9 (pm) when I’m scheduled to fight.” Punk said to explain away his open workout absence

Meanwhile Roufus doubled down on his student saying:

“That being said, I don’t have those nerves coming into this one, because we had a session [Sunday] with coach [Scott Cushman] and with coach [Daniel] Wanderley with Punk and everything just seemed just all together,” he continued. “Not that he was struggling, but he just peaked out. It’s like he understands the sixth sense of fighting. It took him a while to get that. That’s the thing. Everyone knows the Xs and Os of this stuff and we teach you the Xs and Os, the theories.”

“But there’s instinct. And the instinct is there — the reactions, the seeing things before they happen. Having that sixth sense and he had it. I’m very happy about that. Sometimes fighters never get that.”

Punk also have Ronda Rousey some advice:

Kevin Lee gave a very honest in CM Punk assessment:

Alexandre Vieira is one of the most exciting up and coming grapplers today under the Brazilian Top Team flag.  In 2017, his loop choke submission was chosen as the Submission of the Year by FloGrappling. Alexandre recently put together his Crucifix and Loop Choke 3 volume instructional set.  Alexandre brings a modern outlook to some of the sports most devastating, but sometimes ignored positions, the crucifix and the loop choke.
