Baton Rouge School Set To Make Jiu-Jitsu A Requirement

 

 

While physical education is a class around the world jiu jitsu has been a requirement thus far only in the middle east. Sheikh Tahnoon developed the plan of of having Jiu-Jitsu taught at UAE schools.

Big ideas lead the United Arab Emirates team back in the early 00s when the educational program using Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was first deployed. 9 years have gone by since 2008 when BJJ was introduced as a compulsory subject in public schools in Abu Dhabi.

The results of a study done since then offered strong evidence that practicing BJJ had a positive influence on the Executive Functions development, specifically the Inhibitory Control.

But it seems as though a Baton Rouge school is ready to follow the UAE lead. Jiujitsu times reports:

 BASIS Charter School is preparing to open its doors in Baton Rouge, LA in Fall 2018. The school is nationally renowned for its accelerated programs and hands-on teaching methods. The 2018 school year will offer grades K-4, and the goal is to add a new grade each year. Areas of interest for students include such classes as Engineering, Mandarin, and even Martial Arts.

 Head of School at BASIS, Robert Ramirez hired a teacher and bjj brown belt Chris Crosby, to guide students through the the physical education curriculum.

“I hope to introduce Brazilian jiu-jitsu to more kids and people who would otherwise never know its benefits.” – Crosby was quoted saying
