Antonio Carlos Jr. Reveals He Suffered From Panic Attacks And Reveals He Credits Meditation With His Recovery

We often read and admire the antics of Demian Maia in the Octagon, we also read and cherish watching the matches of Leandro Lo, Garry Tonon and others.

While the name Antonio Carlos Jr rings a bell you might be more familiar with his nickname – Shoeface.

The nickname came from when Rico Vieira was giving a seminar at Antonio’s academy. Vieira saw Antonio as having a bigger chin then his thus the name.

Earlier this year he appeared at Subimission Underground and submitted Garry Tonon – a man who managed to dominate and escape unscathed against Rousimar Palhares.

But this is not all, Carlos, Jr also managed to sub names such as Leandro Lo and defeat Romulo Barral, Bernardo Faria and Marcel Goncalves.

But that’s not all of it – currently signed to the UFC, Carlos Jr has been putting on spectacular jiu jitsu displays in the octagon:

Carlos Jr recently guested on the Richard Parr podcast where he revealed he’s been suffering from panic attacks since the death of a close friend:

“I always had to know about myself and control myself. Try to keep calm and forget stress. I always try to look to life as a gift. Life’s a gift and we always have something to be grateful for…”

He revealed the panic attack happened when a close friend was killed in Brazil:

“… that made me realize how life is like. Man how come that happened. “

Interestingly Carlos Jr credits psychology and meditation for his recovery. When directly prompted he responded:

“Yeah meditation, therapy, psychology all that. I had to take some medicine at the time. My friends, family everybody understood me at the time and tried to help because it’s hard to understand like we just had someone die for no reason. You know..”
