ADCC Champion Orlando Sanchez Passes Away at Age 40

The 2015 ADCC +99kg champion Orlando Sanchez passed away today December 15th.

Nicknamed ‘Big-O’ and ‘The Cuban Tree Stump’, Sanchez was known for his larger than life outspoken persona as well as his aggressive style of Jiu-Jitsu. Sanchez was also one of the select few fastest ever bjj black belt promotions in history.

Orlando Sanchez started training with Alberto Crane, Romulo Barral, Draculino and “Ze Radiola“.  Ze Radiola promoted Sanchez to black belt in 201 after just 4 years of formal training.

Sanchez was also a recovered drug addict and was a positive voice for mental health awareness.

Sanchez is survived by his wife and three children.

The exact cause of death is still not known.
