‘Even His Excuses Won’t Fit’ Chechen Minister About McGregor’s Disrespectful Kadyrov Comments

‘Even His Excuses Won’t Fit’ Chechen Minister About McGregor’s Disrespectful Kadyrov Comments

Conor McGregor’s recent comments about controversial Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, has been met with hostility from the Chechen community.

McGregor stated during the press conference ahead of of his fight with Dagestan’s Khabib Nurmagomedov on October 6th:

“The Chechen people know what I am talking about when I called his (Khabib’s) father a quivering coward. Him and Kadyrov were at a mosque together and he posted a picture of Kadyrov on his Instagram site.”

He also called Kadyrov “a crazy man.”

McGregor went on to say:

“My Chechen friends…they told me that they have chicken jaws in Dagestan, and I believe them, because I know a glass jaw when I see one…I know he is afraid of a smack; and if you’re afraid of a smack, off me, a smack will feel like a double barrel shotgun.”

Chechen MMA fighter Khusein Khaliev (18-1 in pro MMA) who represents Akhmat Fight Team founded by Kadyrov, recorded a video message on instagram to the Irishman. Khaliev was offended by McGregor calling Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov (Khabib’s father) “a quivering coward” for showing “fake respect, out of fear” in a meeting with Kadyrov.

Khusein stated:

“Conor, you’re very skillful chatter. I was convinced, after watching the press conference. This talk you have takes place in Ireland, America and elsewhere. But when it comes to Chechnya or the Caucasus, you need to think what to say. In your speech you will have to answer in a cage or outside,”

Khaliev said that the Chechens will never forgive the one who offended the honor of the family or any other person. “So I suggest you hurry to repent and apologize, because life does not end with the fight with KHabib. Watch your tongue, if not looking for the big adventure.”

As a result of this, the Chechen minister for National Policy Dzhambulat Umarov had an interview on Moscow radio station Govorit Moskova, where he was very critical on McGregor’s comments about Kadyrov:

Transcribed from Bloodyelbow’s Karim Zidan:

”We give him [McGregor] his due. He is a great entertainer in the UFC, but lately he has acted like an outrageous clown who imagines himself to be a showman. What he blurted out at the press conference about Ramzan Kadyrov and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, apparently, he was trying to earn points. And this fact leads me to an alarming thought about the mental health of this man.

”As for Khussein Khaliev, of course, I understand. I support his motives, I support and understand their anger. Although I believe that such statements only leads to more attention for McGregor, who is not able to answer for his words and deeds like a real man otherwise he would not have made these statements from thousands of kilometres away and would not behave like a Mexican cockerel.”

“In that obscene image that he himself made, even his apologies will not fit.”

Chechen BJJ Black Belt Ayub Magomadov came under fire when it was uncovered he was tapped to help prepare McGregor for the Khabib Nurmagomedov match up.

The post – and Magomadov’s presence at McGregor’s side – stirred considerable anger, with some questioning how a man from Russia’s Chechen Republic could help a future opponent of Dagestan’s Nurmagomedov.
