Kron Gracie On How He Bounced Back After His Biggest Defeat

Kron Gracie, son of legend, Rickson Gracie, won the ADCC title in 2013. As a brown belt, he was on fire and had an incredible win streak with 51 straight submission win streak.

Kron received his black belt from the hands of his father just one week before the 2008 IBJJF world championship. His black belt debut was a nightmare… Kron was submitted by Sergio Moraes, of Alliance, in the first match of the middleweight division. Sergio had two takedowns, and it was a tight match until the moment where Sergio passed Kron’s guard and even mounted. Sergio submitted Kron with a choke and celebrated wildly. Outside of Brazil, Sergio was unknown to the world BJJ scene at the the time. This victory over Kron made his name.

GracieMag‘s Ivan Trinidade reported what happened next:

“Fight over, Kron remained a few seconds longer in the fight area. His father jumped to receive him on the sidelines of the mat and the embrace was a long one, father and son left the fenced off area where the fights take place and went beneath the bandstands of the Long Beach Pyramid.

“You lost to his experience. Forget everything you’ve done till now, at black belt it’s all different. But only those who have lost can win. You insisted a lot on getting the neck, you should have gone for his foot, tried other things,” the father consoled and commented.

“I tapped,” lamented the son.

Renzo Gracie, his uncle, gave support to his nephew : “You fought well, It was a good fight. The guy was slick. Nobody knows him, but he has a lot of experience,” said Renzo.

The next to show support was Ronaldo Jacare “It happens, Don’t worry about it,” Jacare said soothingly”

In this interview, Kron talks about the loss and how he overcame adversity and came back stronger:
