NJCAA National Champion Wrestler Sentenced to 60 years for Spreading HIV

Michael Johnson, a former student of Lindenwood University and former NJCAA National Champion Wrestler, has been accused of knowingly exposing more than 30 of his sexual partners to HIV.

A police investigation found 32 videos of Johnson engaging in unprotected sex with at least 31 people over a period of 4 months. Police believe none of Johnson’s partners, whom he met both online through his nickname ‘`tiger mandingo’ were aware they were being filmed or that he had HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Following a 3 day trial, a jury needed just 3 hours of deliberations to find Johnson guilty of one count of recklessly infecting a partner with HIV, 1 count of attempting to recklessly infect a partner with HIV and 3 counts of recklessly exposing a partner to HIV. Johnson received a total of 60 years imprisonment.

Michael Johnson was a Junior College wrestling champion at Lincoln College in Illinois, home of MMA fighters Mike Russow and UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes.

“He didn’t just fail to disclose. When he was specifically asked if he was clean … he lied,” prosecutor Philip Groenweghe told jurors during the trial.
