AJ Agazarm: ‘Metamoris is Collapsing Like a Dying Star’

The headliner of Metamoris 7 is no more.

Marcus Buchecha was planned to face Roger Gracie in the rematch of their Metamoris 1 superfight, but last week, official news emerged that he will not be competing at the upcoming Metamoris 7 event. Both Buchecha and Roger Gracie confirmed that they will not participate in Metamoris.

Aj Agazarm shared his thoughts on social media on the demise of the Metamoris organisation following the recent fiasco as well as their past problems.

The professional grappling promotion, Metamoris, and most notably its founder Ralek Gracie has been under fire for the past few months for various reasons.

Main ones:

-Scheduling events on the same weekend as EBI and the same day as Copa Podio
-Disrespecting Female Competitors
-Untrustworthy Online Site and Automatic Renewals
-Not paying Metamoris Challenger/Underground Competitors, and staff (Including Agazarm who is owed 2,000$ since August 2015).

It is now unsure if the event is still set for July 17th at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles. Metamoris was hoping for the event  to be able to repay its debts and keep the company affloat.

Agazarm stated:

“As Metamoris collapses like a dying star, and implodes into a black hole at the dark, cold, outer limits of the JiuJitsu universe, I pause to reflect, but also to look forward.
-The illustrious Gracie family name is under siege; not by outside forces or worthy opponents, but by a few unscrupulous individuals who bear the name themselves.

As athletes abandon the event, or await compensation that never comes, as fans turn towards other promotions that treat their athletes with dignity, I reflect upon something my Grandfather told me…
AJ, he said, Evil thrives when good men do nothing.
And for too long the BJJ community has allowed Evil to thrive.
At the heart of Metamoris is a mindset that has no respect for athletes, or fans.
That announces matches without athlete approval to sell tickets, then refuses to refund money when those athletes do not participate.
That contracts athletes that perform, in good faith, and then are not paid.
As the Promoter hand-picks an “opponent” and performs at his OWN EVENT, to award himself another cut of the revenue.

I urge all professional athletes, and all individuals involved in Metamoris in any capacity, to not let this Evil thrive. I applaud you Buchecha for standing up and when the community needed it most.

Athletes who have chosen to DO SOMETHING are waiting for you, at other promotions that treat BJJ competitors and practitioners with honesty, and integrity.
We extend our hand, firm and strong, from the other side.

AJ”
