One of the main stories that shook the bjj world yesterday was the mystery case of who promoted Sex Offender Paul Saucido to the rank of bjj black belt.
As a reminder Saucido is obligated to register for 14 years as a Sex Offender because he struck up a plea when he was charged with 2 counts of sexual assault.
The story first unfolded back in 2009 when Paul Saucido, a brown belt under Rigan Machado was charged with 2 counts of sexual assault as reported by kxan.com and preserved in the internet archive. The whole story was exposed by the great investigative report of Georgette Oden.
Both Carlos Machado and Rigan Machado attempted to distance themselves from Saucido in 2013 when the incident happened however there is photographic evidence that Rigan had since spent time with Saucido.

Rigan Machado also provided his own written statement saying that he was not the one to have promoted convicted Sex Offender Paul Saucido to the highest rank in brazilian jiu-jitsu.
As a reminder Saucido boasted on his website that he was the only black belt under Rigan Machado in the state of Texas on his website that was subsequently changed. (Screencap attached below)
