How Judo Helped Kid With Learning Difficulties Turn His Life Around

Another inspirational story has come to light recently – how judo transformed the life of Thomas Kyle Jones and turned his life around.

The 18 year old from Swansea has faced adversity since very young age due to learning difficulties, speech problems and ADHD.

But his love for judo has helped him overcome it all Walesonline reports :

His mum, Tabitha Jones, explained how Thomas joined Pontarddulais Judo Club and has never looked back since.

“It’s really done him good,” she said.

“Judo was mentioned years ago, and I thought I’m not sending him there due to the physicality of it, but a friend of mine took her boy and I thought why not take him and bite the bullet.

“He has taken to it like a duck to water. It’s really turned his life around.

“Before judo he had nothing going for him. He was stuck in the house and because of his special needs he couldn’t go far. He was stuck in the village.”

Kyle has turned his life completely around thanks to judo – he will be representing Britain.

His coach explained:

“It proves a point just because people have disabilities it does not need to hold them back.

“It’s about getting up and doing it.

“He was very shy when he first got here but when we started going through things with him he took to it like a duck to water.

“At the championships in Cologne it will be the first time he would have been on a level playing field as the people he’s competing against – as it’s an IQ based qualification.
