Adam Dietrick (OCBJJ) Passed Away Earlier Today

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community lost another young soul today. Tom DeBlass’ student Adam Dietrick passed away following complications from a blood clot that traveled to his lung.

Initially Adam fainted following warm up. It’s not likely it was related to BJJ. The clotting in Dietrick’s lung acted up at the beginning of class. Dietrick quickly went into a coma and passed away earlier today. Adam was 22 years old.

Symptoms of pulmonary embolism include chest pain, shortness of breath, a bloody cough as well as fast heart rate and anxiety. There are many risk factors that contribute to a blood clot forming. When you feel these symptoms, consult a physician as soon as possible.

Adam’s girlfriend, friends, family and teammates are crushed by this loss. They are joined by many members of the bjj community that mourn a young life that was lost. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our sympathies to Adam’s friends and family. Rest in Peace Adam.
