Fightinglifestyleuae.com caught up with Helder ‘Sponge Bob’ Medeiros, a 6 x world champion and top level BJJ coach. He is student of CheckMat founder Leo Vieira and top UFC contender Demian Maia with accomplishments ranging from being a 6 time World Champion to a 4 times Brazilian champion and Pan-American champion. Medeiros, who is also the Head Coach Halavanca BJJ has coached the likes of Cara de Sapato, Alexander Trans, Jiddu Bastos and many other big names in the jiu-jitsu world.
Medeiros is heavily involved in developing top talent amongst the Emirati youth in the UAE and talks about his involvement in developing the champions of tomorrow.
Helder Medeiros Stated,
“I started teaching here in the school, I was given an invitation to come and take care of some kids on a very special project. We started to teach those kids in a professional way, so they started to develop more. When they started training professionally they started to come to another level. I take care of some very special kids, out of these kids there are about ten I am really sure if they keep going the way they are going, they will become world champion’s at Black Belt. They really have right now opportunities that my generation really didn’t have. They just need to have the desire to train and they have all the support they need.”
In addition Medeiros talks about his background and how he came to get the nick name “Sponge Bob”. Furthermore Medeiros talks about coaching top-level black belts who reside in the UAE in preparation to key tournaments around the world.
