Mahamed Aly Europeans Brown Belt 2x Gold Champ on Fighting like a Featherweight & Origin of His Name

 

 

Brazilian brown belt Mahamed Aly was one of the stars at the 2015 Europeans where he won double gold.

He is a BJJ purple belt world champion (2014) and a MMA hopeful, a member of Team Nogueira in Rio and who trains under Team Lloyd Irvin when in the US. Mahamed was also spending a lot of time in Dubai where he was helping H.E Sheikh Tariq Bin Faisal bin Khalid Al Qassimi in his training.

Mahamed talked to BJJ Eastern Europe about his performance at the Europeans and more about himself.

Mahamed first of all congratulations on the double gold at the Europeans. Can you please introduce yourself to the BJJ community?

Hello everybody, my name is Mahamed Aly. Brown belt, from Rio de Janeiro. When I’m in rio, i train at Team Nogueira and when I’m in the USA i train at Lloyd Irvin.!

Please tell us about your time spent training in the UAE

I was in Dubai few times… But the last one i went there To help Sheikh Tarik in his Trainning camp for the Rio Open Championship.

How would you describe your style of BJJ?

I like to think that I’m a feather weight (He’s a super heavyweight)! I like to try everything new when training.

What is the story behind your name Mahamed Aly? Are you a Muslim Brazilian?

I’m Brazilian but My name is Muslim. I’m not Muslim though. Actually, My father was a big boxing and gave me this name as a tribute to the great Muhammad Ali.

What are your plans for 2015?

My plan for 2015 is to be a best brown belt I can be… Win every championships I can win… And continue being happy as I am everyday…
