McGregor: ‘Once I Hit Aldo, He’ll Turn into a Grappler, 100%’

Conor McGregor wants to knockout Jose Aldo. He also believes that once he tags Aldo, the Brazilian will ‘turn into a grappler’:

He told the press in Brazil:

“At the end of the day, facts are facts. When I hit you, you fall. It’s that simple,” McGregor told the Brazilian media. “It doesn’t matter where. It doesn’t even matter if you have your hands up and it comes through your guard. I hit, and it breaks, that’s it.”

“I feel after the first exchange, he will turn into a grappler, 100%.”

He also questioned Jose Aldo’s finishing abilities:

“Look at Jose. Look at the facts of his career. Who has he stopped? He has had one legit finish in his UFC career,” he states. “He ‘finished’ Korean Zombie, who tore his shoulder. A fluke stoppage and he was running around the octagon like he stopped it himself. He has had one finish inside the UFC’s octagon.”

“I’m only here not even a wet day, and I’ve had four,”

If the fight does go to the ground then UFC champion and BJJ black belt Jose Aldo will be no slouch.
Aldo trains under the legendary coach André Pederneiras from Nova Uniao (home of Vitor “Shaolin”, Robson Moura, Ramon Lemos, Gustavo Dantas). Jose Aldo’s career in Jiu Jitsu was great and he won the Copa do Mundo at brown belt.

McGregor has already competed at the No Gi Europeans back in 2012 at the time when it was held in London. He reached the quarter finals last time, notably beating Kywan Gracie Behring.
He was always fond of fighting and was no stranger to combat sports having already been a National Boxing Champion as an amateur. With his boxing background as a base he has also trained in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Capoeira, and Kickboxing prior to competing in professional MMA. McGregor currently holds a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Kavanagh.

McGregor was promoted to BJJ brown belt by his instructor John Kavanagh.

His instructor John Kavanagh runs the Straight Blast Gym Ireland and was the first Irish person to be awarded a black belt in BJJ. John fought in MMA to get a basic knowledge and experience of it before he moved into coaching, and where his true love lies in teaching. The fighters he coaches are among the top that compete in Irish MMA and are belt holders in the major Irish promotions such as Cage Contenders. He has trained notable fighters, such as Gunnar Nelson, Paul McVeigh, Cathal Pendred, Aisling Daly, Conor McGregor, Chris Fields and Owen Roddy.
