Coach Cesar Gracie: ‘Nick Diaz Will Go Back to His Jiu-Jitsu Roots’

Nick Diaz was last week suspended for 5 years from MMA by the NSAC for testing once again positive for Marijuana.

The ‘Free Nick Diaz’ movement is going strong. There’s currently a White House petition up and some UFC fighters are showing support for Diaz by refusing to fight in Las Vegas.

Recently, his coach Cesar Gracie told MMAJunkie that his student is likely to return to his Jiu-Jitsu roots.

Gracie expects the suspension to get overturned, but if not, he thinks Diaz focus more on Jiu-Jitsu and compete once again.

Diaz is a BJJ black belt under Cesar Gracie and competed a lot at lower belts and notably holds a submission victory over Jorge Macaco Patino back when he was just a purple belt and Macaco was a seasoned black belt.

Gracie said:

“He loves training jiu-jitsu. That’s just where he came from, and he likes to train with the gi on. I see him getting back to his roots and having fun.”

“One good thing is, a few weeks ago, he sent me pictures of him competing in triathlons, and he hadn’t done that in a long time. That’s the old Nick that I knew, the guy that used to do triathlons, do gi training, and I think that’s where his roots are.”

One match everyone wants to see is his failed match up with Braulio Estima which was supposed to happen at the 2012 World Jiu Jitsu Expo, but Diaz didn’t show up.
