A major upset marked the Jiu-Jitsu World championships in California on Saturday.
The overwhelming favorite to win the title of the absolute, was defeated by Ricardo Evangelista in the quarterfinals. Ricardo Evengelista beat Marcus Almeida “Buchecha” 4-3 on advantages, also in the process Buchecha injured his knee in the 3rd round of the Absolute division. Buchecha is out of the Absolute and this could mean the end of the Worlds 2015 for him.
The triple world champion said he suffered a knee injury at the time that lead to the sweep, but still does not know the severity of the injury. If not serious, Buchecha will still dispute the Worlds in his weight class, the ultra-heavy. Otherwise, he says goodbye to the competition without the expected title.
The final of the absolute will be between Bernardro Faria and Alexander Trans.
