Vinny Magalhaes Talks Down Metamoris Critics: ‘I’ve Always Been Paid’

Our friends at Jiu-Jitsu times recently released an article entitled 10 ways Ralek Gracie Messed Up Metamoris.

The article accuses Gracie of having harmed the professional grappling promotion, Metamoris, in the following manner:

Overspending
Too Many Draws
Not Giving Eddie Bravo Credit
Schedule events on the same weekend as EBI and the same day as Copa Podio
Screwing Garry Tonon
Disrespecting Female Competitors
Untrustworthy Online Site and Automatic Renewals
Losing a Major Investor
Screwing Metamoris Challengers Competitors
Using a warehouse to host it’s last few events.

UFC fighter Roan ‘Jucao’ Carneiro shared the article on his Facebook with the following title:

“Ralek is coward and screw a lot other fighters who isn’t mentioned on this article.”

MMA fighter and BJJ black belt Vinny Magalhaes has participated in Metamoris 4 (draw with Keenan Cornelius) and Metamoris 5 (draw with Mateus Diniz).

He will be competing in Eddie Bravo’s exciting submission only Jiu-Jitsu invitational, EBI 6 which is scheduled to be held in Mexico city on April 30th.

Other major names will be participating: Roberto Cyborg Abreu, Andre Galvao, Yuri Simoes and Dean Lister will be competing in a 16 man absolute division tournament where the winner can win a possible 50,000$. They will be joined by EBI lightweight champions Garry Tonon and Eddie Cummings. More big names are expected to be announced over the next few days.

Magalhaes defended Metamoris on his Facebook account and talked down the accusations:

Although I’m competing for EBI in April, I have nothing bad to say about Metamoris or Ralek Gracie. There has been a lot of comparison between the two events, and I think since both have formats that are completely different there’s room for both in the BJJ Calendar.

So please, stop trying to comparing one event to the other. Both events are doing a lot for grapplers.
Ralek came up with a great event, an event that did a lot for many grapples that were competing only in IBJJF to get $10 medals, and one or another were competing in the Abu Dhabi pro events for some cash prize (not a lot) only if they actually won or placed top 3.

Metamoris and Ralek brought a different reality to BJJ only guys. These guys were not used to get paid a decent/good/really good amount of money just to compete, and Metamoris has provided that.
I’ve been reading a lot of rumors about Metamoris, but I won’t back up those rumors because I’ve always been paid by Metamoris on time, according to my contracts, and Ralek was even nice enough to send me a check for when I couldn’t compete on Metamoris 3.

So instead of trying to ruin the event with some negative rumors, lets support them. The more pro invitational events the better.
